Celebrate International Museum Day 2023 in these museums around the metro

From free admission to curated talks, enjoy special perks in these museums on International Museum Day 2023.

May 18 is International Museum Day 2023! As declared by the International Council of Museums, this year’s theme is “Museums, Sustainability, and Well-Being.”

According to the official ICOM website, “all museums have a role to play in shaping and creating sustainable futures, and they can do this through educational programmes, exhibitions, community outreach and research.”

In line with this thrust, our museums in Manila are joining the festivities with activities and perks of their own. Check out this list and plan out your IMD 2023 celebrations:

Ayala Museum

Mark your calendars: Ayala Museum will open their doors for free on May 20.

On May 20, Ayala Museum will open their nine regular exhibitions for free to the public. Also in line with IMD 2023’s sustainability theme, the museum will hold activities conducive for one’s well-being and offer special deals at the Museum Shop.

Yuchengco Museum

The weekend’s shaping up to be free for Yuchengco Museum.

From May 19 to 21, enjoy free admission (no registration required!) at the Yuchengco Museum. Also check out the second public program of the exhibit “WOMAN: Thesis and Anthesis” on May 20 at 3PM.

National Museum of the Philippines

Live out your explorer dreams at the National Museum this IMD 2023.

On May 18, selected areas at the National Museum will host a scavenger hunt for their guests.

The #NMPScavengerHunt will test the participants’ attention to detail as they comb the museum’s collection of paintings, artifacts, specimens, and more. Special prizes await lucky guests who will complete the challenge.

Fundacion Sansó

Discounts and freebies await guests at Fundacion Sansó.

Early birds at Fundacion Sansó on May 18 can get exclusive merchandise from the gallery. The first 30 walk-in visitors will receive one Inday Cadapan notepad with bamboo Sansó pens. Meanwhile, the succeeding 10 walk-in visitors will receive one Sansó face mask each.

Walk-in clients may also enjoy 10% discounts on selected merchandise at the Fundacion Sansó Museum Shop.

Ateneo Art Gallery

For IMD 2023, the Ateneo Art Gallery and the  Philippine Native Plants Conservation Society Inc. (PNPCSI) will hold a talk on “Philippine Flora Before and After the Galleon Trade.” Attendees will learn more about the impact of the galleon trade to Philippine flora and ecology from a historical perspective.

Happening at the Ben Chan ArtSuite, the talk will be conducted on May 18 at 2PM. The talk is free, open to the public, and will be streamed live via Zoom. Interested guests may check the Ateneo Art Gallery’s Facebook page for registration and more details.
