Moments become memories, transforming into lessons and distilled into Carlo Magno’s latest exhibit, “Percipience.”
Carlo Magno’s “Perceipience,” now showing at Galerie Joaquin, showcases a cohesive selection of mixed media paintings and sculptures that showcases the artist’s latest foray into new mediums. It is this drive to pursue novelty that has driven Carlo Magno’s stellar four-decade long career in the arts. This 2023 show with Galerie Joaquin follows his show, “Aleatoric Space” held last year at Galerie Joaquin Rockwell.

Carlo Magno is best known for his mixed media abstract pieces, figurative artwork, and sculptures. He started out and established himself in the art world as a hyperrealist, mounting his first solo exhibition at the Greenhills Art Center in 1981. As such, it caused quite a stir in the art community when he made the transformational shift from realism to abstraction after 20 years. The momentous shift was marked by his exhibit aptly titled “Transformation” with Galerie Joaquin in 2002.
In his latest works, Magno has struck a balance between the real and the abstract, expression and representation, the implied and inferred. In an ironic twist, “Percipience” features layered and textured mixed media presented as smooth and polished surfaces. In this series, the artist also ventures into works cast in various metals, integrating metals in his framed pieces.

This exhibition invites the viewer to participate in a discourse with the art and the artist through form, color, texture, and refractions of light to extract meaning and substance that will challenge their own percipience.
