20 Baguio artists mount exhibit at Ayala Museum’s ArtistSpace

The group show reflects the traditions and heritage of the Northern Highlands.

Chanum Foundation and Tam-awan Village Artist Group are celebrating their 25th anniversary with the exhibit “Cordi Edwani” at the ArtistSpace in Ayala Museum Annex. The group exhibition of Baguio-based artists is currently on view and runs until April 25 in Makati.

Baguio City has always been a creative hub, attracting artists not just from the Philippines but also from other parts of the world. Chanum Foundation was founded to establish not only a cultural base, but also to create a haven for artists with Igorot heritage and strong cultural influences. The Tam-awan Village Artist Group (TVAG) was first formed to nurture, mentor, and promote its artist members. It has since produced gifted artists who have gone on to become big names art.

Their exhibit at Ayala Museum is but one of many reminders to preserve and promote creativity and culture. The preservation of the culture and traditions of the highland tribes has always been TVAG’s foremost endeavor as people of the Cordilleras. Age-old practices, traditions, and beliefs are firmly ingrained, generation after generation.

For this exhibition, the participating artists reveal their personal and universal perspectives of a life that combines the old and the new. They are a new generation of proud artists who serve as vassals of their culture in this modern world.
