Jumpstarting Green Living with the SM Group

The retail giant highlights several key initiatives in line with its commitment toward nurturing a healthier planet

The SM Group solidifies its commitment to sustainability with several key initiatives.

First, with the launch of the SM Green Finds initiative, customers who wish to jumpstart their way to sustainable living can look for products with the Green Finds badge—items that promote clean beauty, sustainable fashion, green technology, and eco-friendly home maintenance, among others.

Aside from homegrown SM brands, the Green Finds initiative also offers all-natural artisanal products made by local craftsmen—a seamless way to live greener while supporting community livelihoods.

“We devote ourselves to understanding what our customers want. We anticipate their needs and find ways to bring products to their satisfaction. By making greener options easier to find and making it more affordable, we can easily shift to living green,” says SM Retail Inc. President Ponciano Manalo Jr.

“We find ourselves with a unique opportunity to bring both our customers and our supplier partners toward a greener shopping experience—one that prioritizes the welfare of our communities and our common home, our planet,” the president adds.

While the SM Green Finds launches as a pop-up at the SM Store in SM Mall of Asia, it will soon appear in more SM Stores nationwide—all in line with the SM Green Movement, a collective effort of the retail group and its partners toward green living, green culture, and a green planet.

The movement includes sustainable solutions across the various operations of the SM Group: from setting up water catchment systems to solar energy panels, sourcing sustainable products from affiliated suppliers, spearheading coastal clean-ups, to creating green spaces for employees and the public.

The latest addition to SM group’s roster of green spaces is the SM Retail Headquarters—a  2-tower, 14-storey office that demonstrates a variety of eco-friendly features.

It is designed with Insulated Glass Unit (IGU) panels which resist heat, lessen noise transmission, and reduce condensation. It is equipped with automated lighting systems to regulate power consumption, water recycling facilities for water closets in employee washrooms, and proper waste management facilities where recyclables are endorsed to the Trust International Paper Corp (TIPCO) in Tarlac.

To promote air quality, indoor plants surround the spaces, ensuring proper oxidation. All buildings have designed bike racks for employees to encourage green mobility.

These initiatives reinforce the SM Group’s holistic and all-encompassing approach to sustainability and green living, one product and habit at a time.
