Montblanc’s position as an all-around accessories brand seems to be working in their favor. While they’re probably best known in the fine pen department, their leathers and watchmaking haven’t exactly lagged behind, and it doesn’t feel like they’re diluting the brand either.
A lot of it has to do with the focus they’ve placed on travel and exploration (check out the 1858 Geosphere world time watch, for example), which seems to tie their collections together. We have more of that in the 2019 travel collection, and that’s not a bad thing.
The new collection wants to inspire us to reconnect to the world—to discover it from the ground. It’s said to have taken inspiration from Montblanc’s founders, who used their travels as their own inspiration for creating the early pieces from the brand. From trolleys to backpacks to briefcases, each piece displays the Montblanc aesthetic: solid colors, clean lines, fine workmanship, and the tiny stud that’s probably one of the most minimalist logos around these days.
We’ve picked out some of the highlights in the new collection. And since it’s the middle of summer, it’s not a bad time to look into getting a few new things for the road (or the air).
#MY4810 Nighflight Trolley Collection
The new collection’s trolleys come in large, medium, cabin-size, and an even more compact pilot version. It’s made of lightweight polycarbonate with leather detailing, it rolls on 360-degree wheels, and it has a multi-level adjustable handle. There’s also a silver version, which could be a good choice if you’re not a fan of the classic black.
Extreme 2.0 Collection
This line is meant for young urban travelers. It includes a pen pouch, document bags, a wash bag, and other small items to keep your stuff organized when you travel. The Envelope, like some of the other pieces in the collection, uses a carbon fiber motif to add texture to the leather.
Meisterstück Urban Collection
Sleek and clean, the Meisterstück Urban collection is a classic-looking line of backpacks, briefcases, and document cases. Montblanc’s trademark matte leather is paired with brushed metal finishes as well as triangular stitching, creating a subdued look. Clearly, this is for someone who’s more of a “business casual” sort of traveler. Still, it does go for a bolder approach, with some pieces being available in cobalt blue.
